Clinical Psychologist


Summary:  Diagnoses or evaluates mental and emotional disorders of individuals, couples and families and administers programs of treatment by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities: Include the following. 

The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Interviews patients and studies medical and social case histories.
  • Observes patients, and selects, administers, and interprets intelligence, interest, personality, and other psychological tests to diagnose disorders and formulate plans of treatment.
  • Documents goals for treatment and course of treatment while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Treats psychological disorders and adjustment problems to effect improved adjustments.
  • Selects approach to use in individual therapy such as directive, nondirective, and supportive therapy and plans frequency, intensity, and duration of therapy.
  • Collaborates with professionals such as, Psychiatrist, nurses, case managers and primary care physicians in developing treatment programs for providing the most comprehensive and integrated care possible for patients.
  • Consults with other professionals in the community such as; teachers and law enforcement, to work toward enhancing the lives of those living in the community.
  • Instructs and directs students serving psychological internships in clinics.
  • Serves as consultant to social, educational, welfare, and other agencies on individual cases or in evaluation, planning, and development of mental health programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education & Experience

Ph.D. or Psy.D in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA approved program; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Communication Skills:

Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.  Able to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management

Computer Skills:
 To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software, Electronic Medical Records software, and Spreadsheet software.

Certificates and Licenses:
 Licensed Psychologist with HSP designation in state of Tennessee

Supervisory Responsibilities

May Supervise Psychotherapy students and/or School Psychologist. Supervision depends on each Psychologist and location.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

· Work is performed indoors in a heated and air conditioned office setting.

· Requires ability to distinguish between letters, numbers and symbols.

· Requires a normal range of vision.

· Requires awareness of personal limitations and flexibility.
