INTERPRETER

Location: Knox Co./Knoxville

SUMMARY: An interpreter fluent in Spanish to assist an interdisciplinary team of healthcare providers to facilitate understanding in communications between people who speak different languages in a health care facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: 

The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Interprets the spoken word (Spanish) and translate written materials for the non-English speaking client including patients, family members, and significant others.
  • Assistances by interpreting consent forms and any other patient related information.
  • Interpreter shall keep all patient information confidential and will not disclose to anyone any information learned during the performances of their duties.
  • Interpreter shall interpret everything the speaker says without changing the meaning and does not make any additions, deletions, or alterations to how or what is said.
  • Interpreter shall introduce themselves to all parties and explain their role.
  • Must avoid getting personally involved with the people for whom they are interpret and keep relationship with patient on a professional level at all time.
  • Assist with patient referrals
  • Other duties as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 • Adhere to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
 • Always maintain patient confidentiality.
 • Report to work on time and as scheduled. Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
 • Wear identification while on duty.
 • Always represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.
 • Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.  
 • Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
 • Attend regular staff meetings and in-services as needed.  

QUALIFICATIONS 

Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. One-year experience as an interpreter in a medical clinic setting preferred. 

Ability to demonstrate fluency by passing a Language Assessment administered by CHS Language Services vendor is required.

Skills: 

  • Must have the ability to read, write and converse fluently in the Spanish language and in English.
  • Ability to speak read and write in Russian or Bundoran is a plus.
  • Must possess excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to interact with patients of all cultural diversities.
  • Good phone and customer services skills.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Work Processing software, Electronic Medical Records software, and Spreadsheet design software.
