Medical Scribe


SUMMARY: Performs all clerical and information technology functions for a provider in an integrated clinical setting by utilizing a team-based model.

RESPONSIBILITIES Include the following: (There will be no direct involvement in patient care)

The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Primarily responsible for the operation of electronic health records and electronic dictation systems.
  • Goal is to increase the efficiency and productivity of the provider.
  • Should be comfortable with the pace of primary care, working with an interdisciplinary team, and have strong communication and listening skills.
  • Must be able to anticipate provider needs to facilitate the flow of clinic.
  • Must have excellent knowledge base of medical terminology.
  • Must be discreet, tactful, and unobtrusive in performance of duties so as not to distract medical staff from patient care.
  • Use good judgement, organizational ability, initiative, attention to detail to complete EHR transcription
  • Participates in Quality Improvement (QI), Quality Assurance (QA), and Continuous Quality Improvement Activities (CQI) as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school. Experience as a transcriptionist for 3 years or more or medical records experience.

Computer Skills: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software, Electronic Medical Records software, and spreadsheet design software.
