FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Oct. 7, 2021

MORRISTOWN, Tenn.- This week, Cherokee Health Systems welcomed Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger to its clinic in Morristown. Congresswoman Harshbarger represents Tennessee's First Congressional District located in Northeast Tennessee. Within Congresswoman Harshbarger’s district lies Cherokee’s first founded clinic located on 5th Street in Morristown.

“It was a pleasure to have Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger visit our Morristown clinic on Wednesday. We’re always eager to share how our integrated care model is impacting the lives of those we serve. At Cherokee, we share Congresswoman Harshbarger’s commitment to rural areas and continuing the use of telehealth for the provision of care,” said Joel Hornberger, Cherokee’s Chief Strategy Officer.

During the visit, members of Cherokee’s leadership team and medical staff met with Congresswoman Harshbarger to provide her with history about Cherokee, to discuss current health care issues facing Congress, and to thank her for her support of Federally Qualified Health Centers. Preceding the first half of the visit, Congresswoman Harshbarger received an exclusive tour of the clinic where she got an insider’s look at the equipment Cherokee uses to provide high-quality behavioral health and primary care services to its patients.

“It’s one of the best-kept secrets in our area. Cherokee Health Systems is a treasure right here in our backyard,” said Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger.

Cherokee’s clinic located on 5th Street in Morristown is one of 23 clinics located across Tennessee. It first opened its doors in the 1960s and was known as the Cherokee Mental Health Center. Since first serving patients on the second floor of the Bank of Commerce in downtown Morristown, the clinic expanded to the 5th Street location now providing both behavioral health and primary care services to people of all ages.
